What do we believe? As a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, we believe that the Word of God, as set forth in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, is the only infallible rule of faith and practice, and the supreme standard of the Church. Our Church subscribes to the Westminster Confession of Faith together with the Larger Catechism and the Shorter Catechism which set forth what we understand the Word of God to teach. Some of the key doctrines are set out below. BIBLE - We believe in the inspiration, inerrancy, and authority of the Bible, the written Word of God. GOD - We believe that there is one God who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the same in substance, equal in power and glory. CREATION - We believe that in the beginning God created the world and everything in it out of nothing in the space of six days. It is by His sovereign power and providence that He continues to preserve and govern His creation to fulfil His holy purposes and manifest His divine glory. SIN - We believe that in the Garden Adam, the covenant head of all humanity, ate the forbidden fruit and so we sinned in him and fell with him in this first transgression. GRACE - We believe that our sinfulness makes us unable to be reconciled to God by any of our own good works or efforts. Salvation, the free gift of God, is revealed in the Scriptures alone, is provided by grace alone, is received through faith alone, is found in Christ alone, and is for the glory of God alone. JESUS CHRIST - We believe that Jesus Christ is the only redeemer of God's elect. He is the Son of God, He became man and He lived and died for our salvation. Obedience to the Father and love for us was His motive; penal, substitutionary atonement was the means, and the result, the church, is His masterpiece. RESURRECTION - We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead - the 'Amen!' of God the father to the 'It is finished!' of God the Son. All those who are in Christ will be raised up to everlasting life and those apart from Christ to everlasting judgment. HOLY SPIRIT - We believe in the person and work of the Holy Spirit. He applies the work of redemption to us. He convicts, He regenerates, He unites us to Christ, He indwells, He sanctifies, He equips believers to serve Christ. CHURCH - We believe that the church is to be governed by elders, according to the instruction of Scripture, under the Supreme headship of Christ. GREAT COMMISSION - We believe in our Saviour's command to go into all the world, making disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all that Christ has commanded. SECOND COMING - We believe in the personal, visible, bodily, glorious return of the Lord Jesus to this earth.
